SP Global reported that Mr Robert Mayne-Nicholls, an experienced mine engineer who has run one of the world’s largest copper mines, has been appointed the new executive vice president of Chile’s state mining development corporation ENAMI. Chile’s president, Sebastian Pinera, made the announcement at a ceremony to launch the modernization of the company’s Paipote copper smelter in northern Chile.

Chile’s mining minister, Baldo Prokurica, said at the ceremony that „He comes from the industry and has a great deal of knowledge and experience in private and state-owned companies, achieving excellent results.”

ENAMI supports Chile’s small and medium-sized mines with technical and financial support and buying and processing their mineral output at a series of processing plants and the Paipote smelter.

Prior to joining ENAMI, Mr Mayne-Nicholls spent five years as a top executive at copper producer Antofagasta plc, running its flagship Los Pelambres mine, then leading its Twin Metals project in the US.
