(MB) China’s imports of ferro-nickel and nickel pig iron (NPI) totaled 141,842 tonnes in February 2019, registering a drop of 7.9% or 12,217 tonnes from the prior month’s 154,059 tonnes, according to Chinese customs data. The month-on-month drop was mainly driven by lower volumes of Indonesia-origin material entering China last month; Chinese imports of ferro-nickel and NPI from Indonesia declined by 9.1% or 10,037 tonnes to 100,405 tonnes in February from 110,442 tonnes in January. On a year-on-year basis however, February’s volume was still significantly higher than the 29,159 tonnes of Indonesian material that China imported in the same month of last year.
